Our Indian summer is here

September 2023

The summer season might be coming to an end but the weather in Cornwall hasn’t got the message. The breeze is warm and yesterday was positively sultry. We seem to be having an Indian Summer.

I had a slow summer, sewing and posting very little as I have found it difficult to concentrate. Firstly, my son is home from University. He isn’t noisy or demanding of my time but it’s just the knowledge that he is there that stops me concentrating. It could also be because our small house is full of his stuff. Anyway, he has got himself a job in Bristol and will be winging his way there in a couple of weeks. In addition, I also felt that I should be out in the garden doing stuff instead of in my sewing room. Because the summer has been wet the grass and the weeds have multiplied. Sometimes I feel that I don’t garden but simply weed. My flower beds have really filled out this year and I am enjoying the Hydrangeas at present.

In the last few weeks, I have started to feel more positive and motivated again. Started making plans and setting goals. I have completed two felt bear kits which are now in my Etsy shop and I have already sold one. Yeah!  I am now back working on my Mouse sewing pattern. Taking photographs to explain the steps. I changed a bit of the process having come back to it after a few weeks and it was obvious to me that it wasn’t right. So had to rejig the pattern pages etc. to make it work better. I am now happy. In addition, I have started thinking about an owl-felt kit. It is in the sketch phase right now which I enjoy.

Finally, I have started Pilates which has had a remarkable effect on me. Six years ago I had a stupid accident which left my left ankle scarred and swollen. I started because I noticed that when out walking I was tripping over.  Basically, when my leg gets tired I drag that foot slightly. I could see that when older I was a prime candidate for falling and breaking a hip. So started Pilates to strengthen my muscles.  Well, the swelling has reduced and I have lost 1/2 a stone in weight. Wow! I am feeling stronger, way more flexible and sleeping much better. Why didn't  I do this years ago?  So ladies of a certain age I would recommend this to you.  I attend a  weekly class and have been doing ten to 15 minutes each day. No jumping up and down, no getting sweaty just slow controlled movement using your own body weight.

So until next time TTFN x
