Two little rabbits
29/01/2023
Just finished two little rabbits for two special wee girls. The colours were chosen by my client. I was nervous about the green rabbit as I am stuck in my ways when it comes to colour and green is not a colour I naturally use. However, I am super happy with Willow rabbit. I have used Tilda 100% cotton fabric to make the clothes for two reasons. Firstly, Tilda fabrics are all dyed to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 which is important to ensure that the dyes used in fabrics are not harmful to a child if they put it in their mouths. Secondly, the colours are so beautiful and the quality is excellent.
In addition, in these rabbits, I have used a wool filling from a Cornish company. Wool complies with safety regulations as it has natural flame-retardant properties just like the Polyester I normally use. As it is local I am supporting a local business and adding a touch of luxury. Finally, wool is hypoallergenic and sustainable.
With each rabbit, I have used embroidery to add the names of each little girl on the bib of the dungarees and dress. Again, I have used DMC 6 stranded thread because it is dyed to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100. The dress design is new and I intend on working this up into a pattern and offering Flora rabbit with a dress instead of the dungarees in my Etsy shop. I hope to get that finished in a couple of weeks.
Finally, I have made two cotton drawstring bags for each rabbit. This is my packaging. It forms two functions. A sustainable form of packing which looks great and can also be used as a washing bag for the rabbit. Pop your rabbit in the bag, pop the bag in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and then air dry both.
All in all, my fingers are crossed that my client is happy with my efforts.
